An Inconvenient Truth showing

As part of Earth Week, the Office of Student Life and Multicultural Student Affairs presented the movie An Inconvenient Truth.

An Inconvenient Truth is a documentary about a presentation that Al Gore presents across the country showing citizens how global warming can affect the nation and the world. At the same time it also shows why Gore decided to find a cause to fight for through experiences throughout his life.

There were about 30 people fluctuating throughout the event. Many students and staff were coming in to eat pizza and watch the movie. The pizza was supplied by Pizza Hut. Orange juice, vegetables and mini water bottles were also given out during the event.

The movie was chosen by Samantha Lelo, program director of the Office of Student Life and Multicultural Student Affairs.

“I chose this movie because the speaker yesterday trained under Al Gore,” Lelo says.

The movie was directed by Davis Guggenheim and explains Gore's crusade against global warming since his presidential defeat in 2000.

The movie starts off when Gore says, “I’m Al Gore and I used to be the next president of the United States of America.”

He then goes on to show scientific facts and videos through a slide show that prove global warming is no myth. The movie also showcases some of Gore’s personal life, such as his son almost dying from being hit by a car and his sister dying from lung cancer, which influenced him to fight for the thing we hold most dear, the earth.

Clark student Layne Jeffrey, who watched the movie, says, “The movie was very informative.”

Kelley Schrock, another Clark student and movie guest, says, “Global warming is bad because it makes polar bears angry.”

The movie ended and the remaining guests stood in line to eat what was left of the pizza. Gore’s passionate battle to stop global warming had obviously left an impression as students talked about the information they were not aware of before the event.

“I’d never seen this movie before, and now that I have, I’ve definitely learned something new,” Jeffrey says.
